CEBU CITY, Philippines – Danao City Police are now investigating the possible connection of attorney Baby Maria Concepcion Landero-Ole’s death on December 17, 2020 to that of her husband, Wanito, a former drug convict who he was also assassinated in the city terminal in May 2020.

Police Major Ma. Theresa Macatangay, Danao City Police Chief, told CDN Digital that they cannot rule out the possible connection of both murders, especially since the lawyer already informed them in July 2020 that he had received threats from a convicted that it was her husband’s prison. mate at the Bilibid National Prison.

Although Wanito’s cases were not fully disclosed by Danao City Police, it was known from records that he was convicted of illegal drugs and was incarcerated in Bilibid National Prison prior to his death on May 26, 2020.

“Her husband supposedly has a connection to Bilibid. For some reason githreaten ni siya (lawyer). She appears to have received threats, but since July 2020 we have not heard from her until yesterday’s incident, ”Macatangay said.

This death threat from her husband’s former prison partner in Bilibid is one of the strongest motives the police have for the lawyer’s death, which is why they cannot rule out the possibility that the two deaths were related.

With this, the Danao Police will support the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in the formation of a Special Investigation Task Force (SITG) as its resources cannot handle such a large case.

For now, Danao Police are already contacting the Office of Prison Management and Penology to track down the individual who was allegedly sending the death threats to attorney Ole and whether the individual is still inside the state penitentiary.

Macatangay said the SITG would help speed up the investigation, as it has gone beyond the city of Danao and even the province of Cebu.

On the local side, police said they already have five persons of interest, four on board, two motorcycles and one on board a vehicle.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that these vehicles were the closest to Ole’s car.

Danao City Police are looking forward to the cooperation of Ole’s family so that they can access more information leading to the perpetrators and the mastermind behind the murder.

Ole left two children, including a baby, who is now in the custody of close relatives. / rcg
