MANILA, Philippines – Police Sergeant Major Jonel Nuezca, who was charged with the murder of a mother and her son in Tarlac province, was demoted by the National Police Commission (Napolcom), the Department of the Interior and Local Government said. (DILG) Tuesday.
“If he [Nuezca] was. Napolcom demoted him, ”said DILG undersecretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya in a text message to reporters.
Malaya added that Nuezca, assigned to the Parañaque police crime lab, was demoted for a serious misconduct complaint filed in 2014.
Nuezca shot and killed Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank outside the victim’s home in Paniqui, Tarlac, after an argument.
The murder sparked public outrage online, prompting social media users to use hashtags that condemned police abuse.
A case for two murder charges has already been filed against Nuezca in the Regional Court of First Instance in Room 67 of Paniqui, Tarlac.
