PNVF uses a new committee for the formation of the national team

A committee made up of stakeholders from the National Federation of the Philippines Inc. (PNVF) will be in charge of the selection of the national team, as the association aims for the Southeast Asian Games gold medal in the upcoming editions.

The president of the PNVF, Tats Suzara, exposed this plan and said that the decision will no longer be solely in the hands of the coaching staff, which has been a common practice for team sports.

The commission will be made up of seven members headed by a president and a secretary, with experience in the preparation of selection guidelines.

Suzara said she will sit as co-chair of the commission.

Newly elected to head the federation last month, Suzara hopes that this change will increase the level of competitiveness of national teams that would compete in various international tournaments such as the SEAG, the Asian Games and other FIVB sanctioned events.

This would also pave the way for a larger group of national players.

Suzara has set an ambitious goal of winning the gold medal in the next two SEAG editions to be held in Vietnam later this year and in Cambodia in 2023.

“If we can’t get the gold in Vietnam, we are aiming for the next SEAG in Cambodia,” said Suzara, a member of the FIVB marketing committee and head of the development and marketing committee of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).

The PH men’s team won a historic silver medal at the SEAG 2019 hosted by the country, while the women’s team last won a medal at the 2005 Manila edition, where they won bronze.
