The former director of the Comptroller’s Office of the Philippine National Police died on Tuesday, seven months after being involved in a helicopter crash in Laguna last March.
The PNP confirmed the death of Major General Joevic Ramos, who had been in a coma since the accident.
A total of 8 police officers, including PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa, were in the 2-year-old Bell 429 helicopter when it crashed after becoming entangled with power lines shortly after takeoff in the city of San Pedro.
The takeoff site at Barangay San Antonio was sandy and the helicopter’s propellers fanned the debris, creating poor visibility, Calabarzon police spokesman Lt. Chit Gaoiran said, citing witnesses on the ground.
The twin-engine helicopter that appeared in the accident was new when the PNP bought it in 2017. Gamboa was then the PNP’s chief logistics officer and headed the bidding procedures for the aircraft.
