MANILA, Philippines – The Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Gen. Camilo Cascolan, said Wednesday that he is considering the director of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon). General Vicente Danao Jr. as head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
This, as the NCRPO’s current top cop, Police Major General Debold Sinas, said, deserves a promotion.
“Yes, of course, he is doing well. She did her best and has done well in PRO [Police Regional Office] 4-A, ”Cascolan said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel when asked if he considered Danao as head of the NCRPO.
“Not even that, he has a reputation for service, he’s a very competent person too,” he added.
When asked if Danao is also considered to lead the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Cascolan said he would prefer to place him as head of the NCRPO.
“Whether it’s CIDG or NCR, it’s good. But I prefer to choose him for the NCRPO because he is much better to lead the NCRPO, ”said Cascolan.
After Sinas was featured in the morning controversy, Danao’s name floated as the new head of the NCRPO.
But Danao dismissed this as false information, saying it could cause public confusion and sow a wedge between police officers.
Danao was head of the Davao City Police Station during the time of then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte from 2013 to 2016. He was also tagged by self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato for his alleged involvement in the Davao Death Squad, a group of vigilantes believed to be responsible for murders in the city.
