The soldier who killed and wounded fellow soldiers before shooting himself inside the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) died Wednesday afternoon, September 30, 2020, while in treatment.

PMA spokesman Major Cherryl Tindog said Airman 2nd Class Christopher Lim passed away at 2:24 pm Wednesday.

“Our personnel who opened fire and shot themselves had died around 2:24 pm,” Tindog said.

Tindog said the initial investigation showed Lim had problems with her mental health.

Colonel Allen Rae Co, city director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), said that based on PMA’s initial comments, Lim was allegedly “disturbed”.

On Tuesday, Lim approached the two victims and proceeded to shoot them with an M16 rifle.

The soldier identified as Air Force Staff Sergeant Joefrey Turqueza died while Staff Sergeant Vivencio Raton was injured and is recovering in hospital.

Co said the shooting incident is “a case of misunderstanding and argument that went very wrong.”

The PMA assured that all necessary support will be provided to the three staff members involved in the shooting incident.

The military academy also said that all cadets remain safe inside the barracks.

In February, the academy imposed an institution-wide lockdown as a proactive measure against Covid-19.
