A Filipino who was sentenced to death in 2008 for killing his Filipino partner is now back in the Philippines after Amir from Kuwait recently granted clemency, the Philippine Embassy said.

Charge d’Affaires and Consul General Noordin Pendosina Lomondot expelled Welcome Espino from Kuwait International Airport on August 30.

“I hope OFW Espino brings the experiences and lessons of the past with him as he begins a new life in the Philippines. I wish him the best in his future endeavors, ”Lomondot said in a press release.

Lomondot said that His Highness the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah pardoned Espino during the recently concluded Eid season, along with other Fiiipino detainees at Sulaibiya Central Jail.

He thanked the Emir of Kuwait for granting the clemency to Espino.

In 2008, Espino was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging by the Kuwait Court of First Instance for the murder of his partner from Pinay in 2007. The decision was confirmed by the Kuwait Court of Appeal in 2009 and by the Court Kuwait Cessation that same year.

But Espino received a tanazul or letter of forgiveness from the victim’s family after liquidating the blood money for the crime and which led to the commutation of his death sentence to life imprisonment in 2013.
