MANILA, Philippines – The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 294,591 on Wednesday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,833 additional recently-reported infections.
The DOH tally showed that this increase brought the number of patients with active coronavirus cases to 58,127, of which 86.5 percent have mild symptoms, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent experience severe symptoms and 3.0 percent are in critical condition.
765 new recoveries have been reported, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 231,373. However, 44 deaths recorded on Wednesday brings the death toll to 5,091.
Most of the new COVID-19 cases come from the National Capital Region with 1,222, followed by Cavite (228), Negros Occidental (206), Batangas (143) and Bulacan (141).
DOH also noted that 31 duplicate cases were removed from the total case count after validation of the data submitted by the testing laboratories.
