Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 398,449 on Monday, as the Department of Health (DOH) noted an increase in the number of infections in four areas.

The Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, said that although there are areas with few registered cases, some areas showed an increase in new cases by up to 200 percent.

Vergeire said these areas are Sarangani, Eastern Samar, Ormoc City, and the Dinagat Islands.

The health official cited that in Sarangani, they attributed the increase in cases to clusters detected by health workers; Eastern Samar is due to the increased testing capacity; Ormoc City is still investigating the registered groups; and for the Dinagat Islands, they assume that it is because of the port area that was opened.

“But we [DOH] will also examine these [increase in the number of new cases ] and also local government units, ”added Vergeire.
