ALMOST 2,000 new cases of coronavirus infections were reported again on Tuesday, Oct.13, bringing the total case count in the country to nearly 350,000, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

At 4 p.m. Tuesday, the DOH said the Philippines now has a total of 344,713 cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), after 1,990 newly confirmed cases were added to the list.

Of the 1,990 new cases, 1,831 (92 percent) occurred from September 30 to October 13. The National Capital Region (NCR) still tops the list of those with the highest cases, registering 510 or 28 percent of new cases.

Other new cases were reported in Calabarzon with 436 or 24 percent, and in northern Mindanao with 158 or nine percent.

The DOH, however, recorded 327 recoveries that brought the total number of people who survived the disease to 293,383. This also left the total of active Covid-19 cases in the country at 44,958 as of Tuesday.

In terms of deaths, the DOH reported 40 new deaths. Of this number, 18 occurred in October (45 percent), 15 in September (38 percent), four in August (10 percent), one in July (two percent), one in June (two percent) and one in April (two percent). percent).

The health department said the new deaths were reported in Western Visayas with 13 or 32 percent, Calabarzon (10 or 25 percent), Cordillera Administrative Region (3 or 8 percent), Caraga (3 or 8 percent), NCR (3 or 8 percent)), Ilocos (2 or 5 percent), Soccsksargen (2 or 5 percent), Bicol (1 or 2 percent), North Mindanao (1 or 2 percent), Davao (1 or 2 percent) and Filipinos returning abroad (1 or 2 percent).

The DOH announced that 93 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 85 were patients who had recovered.

It added that at least 17 labs were unable to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System on October 12, 2020, and this may have contributed to the fewest new cases reported on Tuesday.
