MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos should not worry about getting flu shots, as flu vaccines in the country are safe, the Health Department said Friday.

The DOH said after Singapore stopped the use of two flu vaccines as a precautionary measure.

In a briefing, Beverly Ho, director of the agency’s health promotion and communication service, said the Philippines regularly monitors flu vaccines.

“At this time, there are no reports of AEFI (post-immunization adverse events) with the influenza vaccine in the country,” Ho said.

Singapore discontinued use of the SKYCellflu Quadrivalent and VaxigripTetra flu vaccines as a precaution after some people who received them died in South Korea, Reuters reported. But South Korea said it has not found a direct link between the deaths and the injections and will continue with its immunization program.

“The [Food and Drug Administration] It has also verified the batches and batches that are being investigated in Korea and Singapore and none are found here, ”said Ho.

“Flu vaccines are safe and DOH’s national immunization program will continue to advance,” he added.

Health experts urge people to get vaccinated against the flu as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

FDA Director General Eric Domingo said demand for flu vaccines increased to “protect everyone from seasonal flu and pneumonia.”
