MANILA, Philippines – The daughter of Bayan Muna’s representative, Eufemia Cullamat, was killed in a meeting between government soldiers and the New People’s Army (NPA) in Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Army said Sunday.

In a statement, the Philippine Army said that Jevilyn Campos Cullamat, or “Ka Rep”, who allegedly serves as a medic for the NPA, was killed in an encounter with the 3rd Battalion of Special Forces of the Philippine Army (3SFBn) last 28 of November.

The Philippine military said Jevilyn is the youngest daughter of Representative Cullamat of Bayan Muna.

INQUIRER.net has sought confirmation from the Cullamat representative’s camp, but has yet to receive a response as of press time.

Jevilyn’s was immediately evacuated and her siblings and family members were notified immediately before the report was released, the Philippine military said.

“The military provided security and transportation assistance to the Cullamat family and coordinated with the nearest morgue for the proper handling of the body,” said the Army.

Following the encounter, the Philippine military said it also seized high-powered firearms, including three AK-47 rifles, one M14 rifle and one M653 rifle.

Five backpacks containing combat equipment and subversive documents were also seized, the Philippine military said.

“We send our condolences to the Cullamat family. We are saddened to learn that she and her family were simply victims of the mindless and destructive ideology of the CNT (NPA Communist Terrorist). While there are problems related to IPs, violent, armed and terrorist struggle will never be the right solution, ”said Brigadier General Allan D. Hambala.
