PhilCycling Director Bambol Tolentino is using every available resource to help mountain biker Ariana Dormitory secure a spot at next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
“We will include Ariana in qualifying races next year to maintain her qualification,” Tolentino told the Philippine Sports Writers Association Forum held online Tuesday.
The president of the Philippine Olympic Committee and representative of Tagaytay City said the 23-year-old Dormitory has a chance to claim all four allotted spots in Asia, as it currently ranks fourth in the region behind cyclists from Japan. , China and Iran.
“Japan, being the host, there is no need to go up from the top fourth third. It just needs to stay, ”Tolentino said.
Also with the possibility of advancing to Tokyo is Daniel Caluag on BMX.
Caluag, who was in action at the 2012 London Games, was fifth after the March limit set by the UCI, the world’s leading cycling group, and will have a chance to improve if he performs well in qualifying races next year as well. .
“I think the same goes for BMX,” Tolentino said.
Tolentino had already ruled out the possibility of a Filipino cyclist doing it in road events.
“Camino, no more. A woman has a better chance on a mountain bike, ”he said.
The country currently has four Olympic qualifiers: Carlos Yulo in gymnastics, EJ Obiena in pole vault, and Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno in boxing.
