PH will opt for the less expensive COVID-19 vaccine once it is available

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines would choose to buy a less expensive vaccine for COVID-19 regardless of the country it comes from, President Rodrigo Duterte said Monday.

“Like I said, it’s there. I think it is Modern. It is an American company, I think they will be ready by September. I told them to hurry up. Sinovac, China is ready too, ”Duterte said in a recorded speech, speaking in part in Filipino.

“Who [produces it], it’s all the same. Whoever does it first and gives it to wear cheap, that’s where we’ll go. They know we don’t have enough money. If it is too expensive, we will opt for the least expensive, “he added.

Earlier, Duterte said that Russia had committed to providing the Philippines with a COVID-19 vaccine.

He even volunteered to be the first to test Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine to show that it would be safe for humans.

In addition to Russia, China has also promised to give priority to the Philippines once it develops a vaccine for the coronavirus.
