Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 17) The country reached a grim milestone of 500,000 COVID-19 infections, nearly a year after it confirmed its first case of the disease, the Health Department reported Sunday.
The DOH said the national count is now 500,577, of which 24,691 or 4.9% are active cases. The latest report showed that 84.6% of currently ill patients experience mild symptoms, 6.6% have no symptoms, 5.3% are in critical condition, 3% are severe cases, and 0.47% they are moderate cases.
The city of Davao recorded the highest number of new infections in the entire country with 107, the DOH said. It is followed by Quezón City with 106, Isabela with 65, Pampanga with 63 and Bulacan with 62.
Another 5,868 recoveries also brought the survivor count to 465,991, representing 93.1% of all patients.
Meanwhile, 11 more deaths brought the death toll to 9,895. Of this number, five were previously reported as recoveries and reclassified as deaths, according to DOH.
The department also said that five testing labs did not submit their data on time and it was not yet included in the latest figures. He added that nine duplicates were removed from the overall count after final validation.
