Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 29) – The Health Department confirmed 886 more cases of COVID-19 in the country on Tuesday, and the total count increased to 471,526.

This is the third day in a row the country has seen fewer than 1,000 new cases, but DOH previously explained that the decline is due to fewer people getting tested during the holiday season.

The updated count also does not yet include the most recent data from nine testing labs that were not submitted on time, the department said.

According to the case report, active or sick cases currently stand at 23,348. This represents 5% of the total count.

Davao City contributed the highest number of new cases with 61, followed by Pampanga with 58, Bulacan and Quezon City with 45 each, and Cavite with 37.

Thirty-eight more patients also succumbed to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 9,162. Meanwhile, 253 more survived for a total of 439,016 recoveries.

After final validation, the DOH also said that eight cases wrongly reported as recoveries turned out to be deaths, while 10 duplicates were removed from the total count.

Among Filipinos living abroad, 28 more contracted the virus while another 10 recovered, the Department of Foreign Relations said. No new deaths were reported for the sixth consecutive day.

The number of Filipinos infected abroad is now 12,875, with 8,386 survivors and 911 dead.

Worldwide, cases have exceeded 81.2 million, with more than 1.7 million deaths and 46 million recoveries, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
