The country published on Saturday its second highest number of cases of new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) since the pandemic began last year with 9,595 new cases, according to the Department of Health (DoH).

This is slightly lower than the 9,838 posted on Friday.

Saturday’s figure brought the number of active cases to 118,122, or 16.6 percent of the 712,442 infections in the country.

Despite high-activity cases, 98.6 percent, or more than 116,000, are mild, moderate, or asymptomatic, and the remaining 1.4 percent, or more than 1,700 cases, are severe or critical.

Hospital capacity in the National Capital Region (NCR) remained moderate to high risk, with 73 percent, 67 percent, and 58 percent of intensive care unit beds, isolation, and wards occupied, respectively.

The recovery rate is 81.6 percent, or a total of 581,161 recoveries, including 481 new survivors, while 10 more died to increase the death rate to 13,159 or 1.85 percent.

Almost 5,500 of the 34,101 samples that were tested in all but 11 laboratories were positive for a positivity rate of 16.2 percent.

The country ranks 30th in the world with overall Covid-19 cases and second in Southeast Asia behind Indonesia.

Global Covid infections amount to 126.15 million, of which 2.77 million have died.
