MANILA, Philippines – Despite AstraZeneca pulling out of the country’s clinical trials, the Philippines may consider negotiating the possible COVID-19 vaccine made by the British drugmaker and Russia’s Gamaleya Institute, an official with the Department of Science and Technology said on Friday. This after the DOST Undersecretary, Rowena Cristina Guevarra, revealed that AstraZeneca officially withdrew from local clinical trials in the country.
“I think both [AstraZeneca and Russia’s Gamaleya Institute] are on our list. If, for example, they present stronger vaccines, maybe if the clinical trials are acceptable and the results are very good, then the FDA [Food and Drug Administration] We just have to review and consider it, ”Guevarra said at an online press conference led by the Department of Health.
Days ago, AstraZeneca revealed that it would soon explore with Gamaleya, who produced Sputnik V, to power its vaccine.
