MANILA, Philippines: A Manila-based developer and the Philippine task force launched an online and mobile app that can track people showing symptoms of COVID-19 against the dreaded disease.

Developed by Multisys Technologies Corporation, StaySafe.ph allows users to report their health and that of their families.

It was created at no cost to the national government, the National Task Force against COVID-19 said in a statement.

Multisys founder and CEO David Almirol Jr. said the platform was designed to help national government, local government units, frontline members and private entities monitor the health condition of residents and track contacts more efficiently.

Almirol said that the application has complied with the Data Privacy Law and will not ask users to disclose confidential information.

“We are not asking for the date of birth because if you capture the date of birth, you are [violating] data privacy, but we capture age so as not to violate data privacy, “Almirol said.

During the online registration process, users will be asked if they experience any of the symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, fatigue, muscle pain, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath, and diarrhea.

Using users’ responses, the platform will generate a result that indicates a mild, moderate or severe condition depending on the number of symptoms that the user is manifesting. The data will then be sent to a “heat map” on the main panel of the platform, which shows the areas and the number of people exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

Front members, local government units and private entities will have access to the administration panel to help them track the number of confirmed cases, people under investigation and monitoring, deaths, recovered patients and the location of patients.

They will also receive alerts to respond immediately to severe cases of COVID-19 and provide direct online consultation to patients.

As of Thursday, the Philippines had 4,076 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 203 deaths and 124 recoveries.
