Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 15) – The country’s COVID-19 case count surpassed 550,000 on Monday after the Health Department confirmed 1,685 new infections.

The official count is now 550,860, of which 27,588 or 5% are active cases. This still does not include the most recent data from six test labs that did not report on time.

Two more deaths, both previously announced as recoveries, also brought the death toll to 11,517. This is the lowest increase in deaths in a single day since July of last year. Meanwhile, another 14 patients improved, bringing the number of survivors to 511,755.

After final validation, a duplicate entry was removed from the overall count.

From the national case count, the DOH said 44 are confirmed cases of the newer and more transmissible variant first detected in the UK. This was after the department reported 19 more on February 12. However, health spokesperson María Rosario Vergeire said that there is still not enough evidence to show that there is a community transmission of the new variant.
