The Philippines emerged in the top 5 countries in the world with the most avid K-pop fans on Twitter.
Twitter posted data to celebrate 10 years of #KpopTwitter, including the most mentioned K-pop artists and songs and the top 20 K-pop markets in the world.
“Through your passion, #KpopTwitter is one of the most important global conversations on Twitter today. K-pop and Twitter have grown side by side over the last decade, and despite the global COVID outbreak, there were 6.1 billion K-pop-related tweets in the last 12 months worldwide, ”according to the blog of Twitter
From July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, there were 6.1 billion K-pop tweets worldwide. According to Twitter and K-pop Radar, the Philippines is number 5 in the world’s top 20 markets for K-pop based on the number of unique K-pop users on Twitter.
The United States is number one followed by Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Argentina, India, Turkey, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Vietnam and Russia.
Based on the number of K-pop-related tweets from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, the Philippines ranks No. 4.
Thailand led the way followed by South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United States, Brazil, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, India, Vietnam, Singapore, Peru, Chile, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Turkey and Taiwan.
In the Philippines, the most mentioned K-pop artists in the last year were BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, TXT, and TWICE. In South Korea, the birthplace of K-pop, the most mentioned are BTS, EXO, TXT, BLACKPINK and Seventeen. BTS became the most mentioned in 20 markets except Thailand where GOT7 is No. 1.
Ten years ago, in July 2010, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, and Big Bang were the three most mentioned K-pop artists in the world.
Last year, the 10 most mentioned K-pop artists in the world are BTS, EXO, GOT7, BLACKPINK, NCT 127, Monsta X, Seventeen, NCT Dream, TWICE, and Stray Kids.
In the same period, the most mentioned songs are “Obsession” by EXO, followed by “ON” by BTS, “Boy With Luv” and “Black Swan”, “Jopping” by SuperM, “DNA” by BTS, “Not By The Moon “by GOT7. , “How You Like That” by BLACKPINK and “Feel Special” by TWICE.
The 10 fastest growing Kpop artists in the world according to the fastest growth in tweets on Twitter globally from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 are Stray Kids, ATEEZ, TXT, IZ * ONE, SuperM , AB6IX, WayV, CIX, Loona and ITZY.
