The scheduled start of the fourth season of the Philippine Football League (PFL) on Sunday did not advance as the league decided to postpone it due to inclement weather caused by the tropical depression “Fifth” and positive cases of the coronavirus.

In a statement shared Saturday night, the PFL said it made the decision to postpone the start of its new season to “the next few days” as it feared heavy rain and wind due to Quinta being able to disrupt all three. matches scheduled for Match Day. 1 at the National Training Center of the Philippine Soccer Federation (PFF) in Carmona, Cavite.

It is also to give you time to deal with confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus among team personnel at Seda Nuvali in Santa Rosa, Laguna, which is the official headquarters of the league during the two-week-long PFL season four. .

According to the league statement, five players and a coach from two clubs tested positive for the reverse transcription polymerase reaction (RT-PCR) conducted on October 21. They have all been isolated ever since.

Further tests were performed on people who had close contacts with such staff on October 24, and three tested positive.

Despite the development, PFL Commissioner Coco Torre assured that there is nothing to worry about.

“We have anticipated this scenario, so there is a set of health and safety protocols for incidents like this. The important thing is that everyone continues to comply with the protocols, which aim to prevent or minimize the spread of the virus, ”said Mr. Torre.

“We place an emphasis on the safety of each and every person in the bubble, whether they are players, staff or party official,” said PFF Secretary General Atty. Edwin Gastanes said for his part.

Adding: “We understand the current situation and, with participants’ strict adherence to specific bubble protocols, we hope to move forward with the start in a few days.

The start of the PFL session was scheduled for Sunday with a triple header in which the Azkals development team took on Mendiola FC 1991 at 9am. The day is the clash between Maharlika Manila FC and United City Football Club (formerly Ceres-Negros FC) at 8 pm

It was part of the league’s five reconfigured games of the new season to adapt to the conditions prevailing with the coronavirus pandemic.

The team with the best record at the end of the days is crowned champion.
