MANILA – Petron Corp apologized Tuesday after its fuel discount promotion caused heavy traffic in some areas as drivers lined up to take advantage of cheaper fuel.

Petron offered a 50 percent discount on all its fuels from 11 am to 1 pm Tuesday at select gas stations “to reward all the loyal customers who continually support Petron.”

However, motorists queuing to fill their tanks caused traffic jams in some areas.

“We sincerely apologize and have taken note of all your comments and suggestions,” Petron said in a statement.

Petron became one of the hottest topics on Twitter after the promo.

Before granting the fuel discount, Petron also implemented the following price increases: P0.75 per liter for gasoline, P0.85 for diesel and P0.80 for kerosene, saying the adjustments reflected movements in the international oil market.
