Peter Kay has spoken to say that he is ‘delighted’ to hear that the BBC has decided to replay episodes of his award-winning comedy series Car Share.
Bolton’s funny man, who walked away from the limelight in 2017, made a rare public statement on his official Facebook page after the station confirmed the move.
“I’m excited, it really couldn’t show at a better time,” said Peter.
BBC bosses said they had been overwhelmed by the sheer number of requests to air the series, starring real-life friends Peter and Sian Gibson as supermarket workers, with 34.8 million people in touch during the shutdown.
The series will air at 9.30 p.m. on Friday, May 15 on BBC One. The 12 episodes will also be available starting May 15 on BBCIplayer.

Shane Allen, BBC Comedy controller, said: “Car Share was one of the major comedy hits of the past decade and is just the tonic of our time, joining John and Kayleigh on their laughter-filled trips to work and also into each other’s hearts. “
The news comes after Peter appeared on camera for the first time in two years during the BBC’s Big Night In.
The 46-year-old man only appeared for a few minutes, but viewers hailed him as the best part of the charity show.
Sitting in his garden wearing a floral shirt, sun hat and shades and holding a Solero, Peter said, “If you can help tonight, there is a number on the screen.”
“If you can’t, don’t worry about it. You already have enough.”
Peter made a cameo appearance on the show to present a new sketch with Is This The Way To Amarillo, 15 years after his initial success with the Tony Christie classic.
The updated version featured NHS nurses, caregivers, and other key workers to honor them for their frontline work during coronavirus outbreak.
Peter has chosen to stay out of the spotlight after canceling his 2017 foot tour for ‘family reasons’.
It was due to return to theaters for its Dance for Life tour in April and May this year, but was canceled in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
