MANILA – U.S. Navy Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, convicted of killing Jennifer Laude, tested negative for the new coronavirus.

Pemberton took his COVID-19 test on Wednesday and the result from the Tropical Medicine Research Institute came out on Saturday.

His test result showed that “SARS-CoV-2 (causative agent of COVID-19) RNA was not detected.”

The Immigration Office now has custody of Pemberton. The office will enforce the deportation order against Pemberton after the military man was convicted of murder for Laude’s death.

BI spokeswoman Dana Sandoval previously said the office is only waiting for documents such as clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation, Pemberton’s travel documents and flight schedule, which are requirements for the deportation process.

Sandoval said Pemberton will be blacklisted from the office.
