MANILA, Philippines – More game officials are expected to enter the PBA bubble in Clark to increase operations amid the league’s demanding schedule.

In a virtual press conference, league commissioner Willie Marcial said that at least two more umpires are expected to arrive at the Quest Hotel after one was labeled a suspected COVID-19 case and the other was sent home afterward. from an errant call in the final seconds of the game between Rain or Shine and NorthPort.

“We have five in the lineup and now I sent two or three referees to come here,” Marcial said in Filipino. “Still, it will be the same procedure. They will be in quarantine, in self-isolation. “

“Whatever our protocol is when we enter, that will also be their protocol.”

The suspected COVID-19 referee has been dispatched to Athletes’ Village in New Clark City, but the league, Clark Development Corporation and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority believe it was a false positive.

Marcial said that the remaining referees inside the bubble have to work consecutive matches until Sunday, when they expect to receive the results of the RT-PCR test from those who enter.

There are four umpires who generally work on a game, but Marcial said adjustments would be made as the replacement umpire rarely enters the game and would be there to lead the second match of nighttime double headers.

“The replacement referee rarely comes to the game, so we are looking for adjustments,” said Marcial. “It is also like a team, so we are controlling the pace of work of the referees.”
