San Miguel Beer already has an advantage once the PBA restarts its season inside the Clark bubble.

This is because the PBA Board of Governors agreed that Beermen’s victory over Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok last March will be reflected in the team’s rankings should the league get government approval to resume on October 9. .

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the matter was discussed during Thursday’s meeting in which the league approved Clark’s proposal in Pampanga to host the bubble.

“The board discussed that the results of San Miguel and Magnolia were counted because they are included in this season,” said Marcial.

Having a 1-0 record entering the bubble should increase the chances that SMEs will win a sixth consecutive Philippine Cup title under a compressed schedule that is expected to last two months.

A doubleheader will be played each day so that the 11-game knockout round ends in at least a month, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

The playoff format in the PBA Governors Cup will be implemented with the top four teams holding a two-time lead.

The semifinals will be a best-of-five series, while the championship will still be played to the best of seven.

All games are scheduled within the Angeles University Foundation campus.

SMB defeated Magnolia 94-78 in the first game of season 45 on March 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, with last season’s most improved player, Mo Tautuaa and Terrence Romeo, leading the charge with 20 and 19 points. .

But the league decided to suspend its season three days later when the COVID-19 pandemic began to affect the country.
