MANILA, Philippines – Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr.’s crusade against communist movements appears to be relentless, as this time he asked the mayor of Manila, Isko Moreno, if he is welcoming suspected terrorists from the New People’s Army (NPA) in the city.
Parlade’s question arose after Moreno ordered the removal of tarpaulins in the city, in which the Communist Party of the Philippines, the New People’s Army and the National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) were declared as “persona non grata” or people unwished.
“I don’t know who ordered it and I am not aware of the latest NTF ELCAC decision on this,” Parlade said on his personal Facebook account about who put up the tarps. “But why not? 96 cities across the country have already declared the CPP NPA as PNG, so my question really is WHY ONLY NOW in Manila?”
“Why would even Manila order the removal of these tarps? Does Mayor Isko welcome this terrorist? Shall we clarify from Yorme the basis of his action? Is it fear of retaliation? ” I ask.
From the MPIO statement last Wednesday, Moreno explained why Manila got rid of the tarps: “We spread love, not hate, at this time of the pandemic.”
A day later, the Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Año, said that he would ask the mayors to allow the anti-communist canvases, since they are peaceful expressions of the people.
So far, Moreno or the city of Manila have yet to comment on the issue.
Parlade is currently in trouble for his message to actress Liza Soberano, who he warned not to get involved with the Gabriela Women’s Party list, which he claims is a terrorist front. But the military officer’s message was seen by many as a veiled threat.
She also accused another Angel Locsin actress of not being honest with her sister, Ella Colmenares’ alleged membership in the NPA. Colmenares denied this in a separate statement.
Parlade also noted that Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila, a local government university in the city, is headed by Gabriela.
“Let’s take a look at the leadership of the University of the City of Manila. From Pres down, most of Gabriela and the Taguiwalo staff came out of DSWD. Who has the power and authority to appoint in this university? Parlade asked.
“Yes, mayor. Let’s give peace in Manila a chance. Keep the terrorist CPP NPA NDF out of this, ”he noted. [ac]
