MANILA –Bobby Ray Parks Jr. approached the top spot in the Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player race after statistical points (SP) were calculated through the semi-finals of the bubble season.

In the release of the tab results on Saturday, the six-foot-four combined guard TNT edged Phoenix’s Matt Wright with 38.3 SP.

Entering Tropang Giga’s final showdown with Barangay Geneva beginning Sunday night, Parks is averaging 22.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Wright, whose ankle injury held him back in Phoenix’s semifinal series against TNT, dropped to fourth place with 35.6 SP, allowing CJ Perez, whose Terrafirma team crashed in the regular season, to move to third place with 35.7.

Calvin Abueva, who has been on a roll since returning from a long suspension, is now second in the MVP career with 37.1 SP.

The Phoenix winger is currently averaging 15.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.7 steals per night, a stat even better than his Rookie of the Year season in 2013.

NorthPort’s Chris Standhardinger rounds out the Top 5 with 34.6 SP, while TNT’s RR Pogoy, (33.5), Geneva’s Stanley Pringle (33.1) and Scottie Thompson (32.7), and Phoenix’s Jason Perkins (32.7) are looking inward.

Meanwhile, Aaron Black is on his way to earning Rookie of the Year honors.

While the Meralco freshman is still second in the statistics career behind Terrafirma’s Roosevelt Adams, the fact that Meralco made it to the semifinals may sway the voting. (PNA)
