Malacañang has added a Short Message System (SMS) service platform to the 8888 Citizen Complaint Center (8888 CCC) so that Filipinos can send text message complaints against corrupt and erroneous government officials and employees.

At a press conference Thursday, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said that citizens can now simply text 8888 from Globe and Smart and their affiliated telecommunications companies and raise their concerns, complaints and grievances about corruption and corrupt practices by government officials and employees, and slowing down and inefficient delivery of government services and requests for government assistance, free of charge.

“The corrupt, lazy, incompetent in government, be warned. You are now a text message away, ”he said.

When asked how long a complaint can be acted upon, Roque replied: “Each text message is considered communication and, according to the law, there should be a response within 30 days.”

Roque said the whistleblowers had the option of not giving their full names, but because the president had promised rewards, the senders of text messages must reveal their real identities.

The complaint must be expressed in no more than 200 characters.
