After all, the Philippines does not prohibit travelers from the United States.
Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. withdrew his earlier statement Monday night that the United States has been included in the list of countries covered by a travel ban, saying the government will wait for the World Organization of the Health confirm the report that a case of the coronavirus variant was detected in Colorado.
The Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, said that the Department of Health is coordinating with the WHO.
“The Department of Health is coordinating closely with the World Health Organization and the Focal Point for International Health Regulations in the US on the reported variant of SARS-CoV-2,” said Vergeire.
“While we await confirmation, the Interagency Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has stressed that all incoming international travelers from countries not covered by travel restrictions must strictly terminate the 14-day quarantine following the prescribed quarantine protocols that allow home quarantine after testing negative by RT-PCR at the point of entry, “he added.
Hours earlier, Roque said that the ban on foreign travelers from the United States “was already in force.”
The government previously banned travelers from 20 countries, including the UK, where the variant was first detected.
