MANILA, Philippines – It is in the public interest to know the results of the 2016 vice presidential race, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said this when asked why the Attorney General’s Office (GSO) supports former Senator Bongbong Marcos’ motion that seeks the Supreme Court judge’s inhibition from handling his election protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

“With the law to form the Attorney General’s Office, they are actually advising the people and I suppose the motion had to be presented because it is in the interest of our people that we know who really won for the vice president, Roque said in a briefing. online.

(Under the law that created the Attorney General’s Office, they are actually attorneys for the people and I suppose the motion had to be made because our people are interested in knowing who actually won as vice president.)

When asked if Attorney General José Cálida sought approval from President Rodrigo Duterte before submitting the motion, Roque noted that the President did not “micromanage.”

Marcos filed a motion on Monday asking Deputy Supreme Court Justice Marvic Leonen to back off his electoral protest against Robredo.

Hours after Marcos filed the motion, Cálida joined the losing vice presidential candidate’s call for Leonon to inhibit the electoral protest.

Robredo’s legal counsel suspected possible collusion between Marcos and Calida, citing similarities in the arguments of their motions.

But Marcos made it clear that his group had not had prior conversations with Calida about their separate motions that sought Leonen’s inhibition in the electoral protest.
