MANILA – The interagency task force leading the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has allowed non-essential travel by Filipinos abroad starting next week, Malacañang said on Friday, which could increase airline customers. Philippines who have suffered amid the pandemic.
The IATF, which met on Thursday, “lifted the restriction on non-essential outbound travel for Filipinos as of October 21, 2020,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement.
Travelers should submit the following said:
- Confirmed round trip tickets
- Travel and health insurance for those traveling with a tourist visa
- Immigration declaration acknowledging the risks involved in traveling
- Negative antigen result taken within 24 hours prior to departure
“Outgoing Filipino travelers will also need to follow the National Task Force (NTF) Guidelines for Filipinos Returning Abroad,” said Roque.
The IATF decision ends an outbound travel restriction in effect since July.
The Philippines is forecast to see an economic contraction of 6.9 percent this year, the World Bank has said, the largest since the 1980s and worse than the government’s projected 5.5 percent decline.
Its recovery has been limited by a relentless first wave of infections since March, with more than 340,000 cases, the second highest number in Southeast Asia, limiting its ability to fully reopen business and restart domestic and international tourism.
