MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) said Saturday that it would not allow foreign passengers from the United States or foreign travelers who have been in the country for 14 days to be on its flights to the Philippines as a precaution against a COVID-variant. 19 most contagious.

In an advisory, the flag carrier said it will not accept such passengers from 12:01 a.m. on January 3 until January 15.

But PAL said that Filipinos originating in the US or having traveled to the US within 14 days prior to their scheduled arrival in the Philippines will still be accepted on their flights, provided they undergo a quarantine of 14 days in a strict quarantine facility.

“All passengers, whether they are Filipino citizens or foreigners, who are originally from the US or who have traveled to the US within the 14-day period before entering the Philippines and arrive BEFORE 12:01. to. From January 3, 2021, you will not be prohibited from entering the country, but you will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine period in a strict quarantine facility, ”PAL said.

“Passengers who are allowed to enter the Philippines from the US within the periods mentioned above must undergo RT-PCR testing upon arrival. A 14-day absolute quarantine must be completed even if a passenger tests negative on RT-PCR, ”added PAL.

Malacañang previously announced that the Philippines’ temporary travel ban was expanded to the US after the latter reported its first case of the COVID-19 variant in Colorado.

Previously, the temporary travel ban covered 20 countries where the COVID-19 variant was detected. These countries are:

  • Ireland
  • Japan
  • Australia
  • Israel
  • The Netherlands
  • Hong Kong SAR
  • Switzerland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Lebanon
  • Singapore
  • Sweden
  • South Korea
  • South Africa
  • Canada
  • Spain

“Affected passengers can rebook on the next available flights after the restriction period, without the change-of-booking service fees being applied,” PAL said in its notice.

“They can also refund the cost of their ticket with the waiver of refund service fees. A third option available is the conversion of the PAL ticket into a travel voucher for future use, ”added the flag carrier.
