MANILA – Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced Thursday that it has increased its domestic flights on several routes in time for the Christmas season, following months of reduced operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are here to help our fellow Filipinos return home to reunite with their families this Christmas and bring them back to their residences and workplaces abroad,” said Harry Inoferio, PAL Philippines Senior Associate Vice President of Sales.

The company said it increased its domestic business operations this month by 103 percent compared to November, as it cited the industry’s “gradual” rebound “with calibrated easing of travel requirements, reopening of tourist routes and improvement of health and safety protocols “.

“We are mobilizing more aircraft and excursion flights across our network to further help drive the recovery of the economy, including the tourism sector, which is a major provider of jobs and business,” Inoferio said.

Here are some details of PAL’s augmented domestic operations:

  • Duplicate services on the main main route between Manila and Cebu, from 14 to 28 return flights per week from 1 December
  • Flights between Manila and Cagayan de Oro will increase to three times a day, while flights between Manila and Tacloban doubled to twice a day.

PAL also announced that it has resumed services to Antique, as well as to Catarman and the tourist destinations Coron (Busuanga), Siargao and Boracay.

PAL currently operates up to two daily flights to Boracay Caticlan Airport from Manila.

PAL also reactivated its service to Tagbilaran (Panglao airport) in November after the reopening of Bohol province to domestic tourism.

Overall, PAL said it now serves 25 domestic and 32 international destinations.

Meanwhile, PAL added that it was preparing its fleet of wide-body aircraft for “the task of transporting vaccines to the Philippines and around the region.”

The Philippine government said it intends to use 4 vaccines against the new coronavirus by the first 3 months of 2021, even as the country has yet to receive requests for the use of emergency vaccines for the drug.
