MANILA – Tropical Depression Vicky accelerated Friday night as it moved over the city of Esperanza, Agusan Del Sur, hours after it first made landfall, the state meteorological office said.

In its 8 pm bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the climate disturbance was seen in the vicinity of Esperanza at 7 pm, moving northwest at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour.

The current speed of the storm is twice as fast as when it made landfall for the first time at 2 pm, when it had a speed of 15 km / h.

Vicky, the 22nd storm to enter the country this year, has maximum sustained winds of 45 km / h near the center with gusts of up to 75 km / h. It is predicted to move to the west-northwest or northwest as it passes over the Mindanao landmass.

It is also possible that the tropical depression will emerge over the Bohol Sea, pass near Siquijor or Misamis Occidental, and pass nearby or make another landfall over southern Negros Occidental on Friday night or early Saturday.

According to PAGASA, the areas of Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Leyte del Sur, Leyte and Bohol will experience heavy rains due to the “combined effects” of the tropical depression and the end of a frontal system, or cut-off line, from Friday night until early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the Bicol region, MIMAROPA, Calabarzon, Lanao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte and the rest of the Visayas, the Davao region and northern Mindanao will experience light to moderate rains and occasionally heavy rains.

“Floods (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides can occur during periods of heavy or prolonged rains, especially in areas identified as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and in locations that received significant preceding rainfall during the last days or weeks, “said the meteorological agency.

The tropical cyclone No. 1 wind signal has risen in the following areas where Vicky’s 30 to 60 kph winds can rip roofs off nipa and cogon huts, damage rice crops, and topple banana plants :
