World champion boxer and senator Manny Pacquiao is the new ambassador for the popular “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.”

The game will introduce a new character inspired by Pacquiao, a hero named “Paquito”.

“Mobile Legends” released a teaser showing a pair of boxing gloves, a tribute to the sports icon.

Arnold Vegafría, Pacquiao’s business manager, said the sponsorship fee from his deal with “Mobile Legends” will also be used to fund the senator’s relief operations for victims of Typhoon Ulysses.

“His guarantees, he will give them for his relief operations and he gives them to the people. He is really doing the rounds,” Vegafría said.

Developed by Moontoon, the mobile multiplayer online battlefield was first launched in 2016.

It gained popularity in Southeast Asia and was even chosen as a medal event in esports competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Vegafría said it took the last 2 months to secure the “Mobile Legends” deal.

He said online gambling appealed to Pacquiao, because even his kids play at home.

“They play during their bonding moments at home,” Vegafría said. “It’s also nice to have a Filipino hero character in the game.”

Pacquiao recently reached an agreement with Globe Telecoms, which secured the boxer’s broadcast rights through Upstream.

This means that future Pacquiao fights can be viewed locally online via cell phones.
