MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is scheduled to disburse another P2 billion of funds to assist Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW) temporarily or permanently displaced by the coronavirus disease (COVID-) pandemic. 19).
According to the Department of Labor, as of November 30, OFWs who will be repatriated to the Philippines can submit their application for AKAP financial assistance from the DOLE prior to their arrival in the country.
DOLE said OFWs can receive their benefits within three to five days after submitting the completed documents.
Under the new system, all new AKAP applications will be accepted through the oasis.owwa.gov.ph website for displaced OFWs who are scheduled for repatriation.
This will allow the offices of the (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) to process and review applications in advance.
“This will shorten the waiting period for OFW applicants as they are now allowed to apply while on site and receive financial assistance once they return to the Philippines,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said Sunday. it’s a statement.
Meanwhile, for stranded Balik-Manggagawa and seafarers whose deployment was suspended due to COVID-19, as well as for those who have been and will be repatriated before November 30, the DOLE said applications have yet to be submitted through dole-akap.owwa.gov.ph.
On the other hand, displaced OFWs who will remain in place can apply through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office that covers their workplace.
DOLE said it has so far disbursed P3.45 billion benefiting 338,900 OFW in distress.
The P2 billion funds established for disbursement will be taken from the Bayanihan To Recover As One Act or Bayanihan 2 and is expected to benefit 200,000 OFW who will receive P10,000 of cash assistance.
