MANILA, Philippines – Workers at Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) on Sunday opposed President Rodrigo Duterte’s idea to abolish or privatize the agency amid allegations of corruption that lawmakers said had been taking place at the insurer. state health for decades.

The president recently broached the idea of dismantling PhilHealth during a meeting with congressional leaders, to discuss measures that would eradicate bureaucracy and corruption in government, including pressing issues related to the Universal Health Act and PhilHealth.
