Only the government is authorized to acquire and administer COVID-19 vaccines – Galvez

MANILA, Philippines – Following reports of people allegedly making reservations for coronavirus vaccines in the country, COVID-19 policy implementation chief and vaccine czar Carlito Gálvez Jr. reminded the public on Monday that only the government is authorized to purchase and administer the vaccines.

“Any other offer of guaranteed access to any of the vaccines is not only illegal but is also life-threatening,” Gálvez said in a statement.

Authorities are now moving to identify those responsible for the misinformation and for possible prosecution, the former military general said.

Galvez said that The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for any of the coronavirus vaccine candidates.

“As such, it must be made clear that none of these vaccines should be sold to the public pending US issuance. All vaccines that are supposedly sold on the black market are considered illegal, ”said Gálvez.

In a television interview Monday morning, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. revealed that he received complaints from China about the alleged presence of vaccines developed in China in Binondo or more popularly known as Chinatown.
