CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu, as an island, has examined 28 samples for 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Friday, May 15, which is lower compared to the previous days since aggressive and massive tests were performed.

The Governor of Cebu, Gwendolyn García, in a meeting with all the mayors in Cebu held at the Balamban Municipal Hall in the city of Balamban, announced that only one of the 28 specimens tested positive for COVID-19.

The new COVID-19 case registered for Friday is an inmate of the Mandaue City Jail. As a result, there are no new cases of coronavirus reported for the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and the province of Cebu.

“Of the 28, the negative total is 27. There is only one positive. And the new positive case is from Mandaue City BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology). There are only 28 results (produced). There are only a few,” he said. García in Cebuano.

The 28 samples analyzed included 12 from Cebu province, 7 from Cebu city; 3 from Lapu-Lapu City; and 4 from the city of Mandaue.

Since Cebu City launched massive tests last April, and other local government units in the province have aggressively strengthened its surveillance, an average of no less than 100 samples were processed and examined at the sub-national laboratory here.
