Former ONE flyweight world champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of the Philippines makes his long-awaited return to action on Friday, and the 31-year-old is motivated and confident to build another run towards the ONE world title.
Eustaquio will face South Korean “Running Man” Song Min Jong in a three-round mixed martial arts contest on ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously recorded event in Singapore scheduled to air globally on November 13. The fight will be played with a weight of 64 kg.
Against Song, Eustaquio faces off against a South Korean national mixed martial arts champion, and a product of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior series. Song is known for his tricky clay game and his ability to pull off tough wins.
Eustace is still respectful to Song before their confrontation, but says he fully hopes to leave the arena with his hands raised in victory at the end of the night.
“I have a lot of respect for him. He is a good martial artist. He has also made his mark in the mixed martial arts world and has enough experience. He has a good size and a fairly decent ground game. But he is never faced anyone like me. I am a complete boxer and I plan to show that in this fight, “said Eustaquio. “I am preparing with the best team, Team Lakay. Every day, I am surrounded by world champions and athletes, world class coaches and coaches. I am constantly trying to improve my dirt game and my fight.”
Eustaquio is coming off an impressive victory over former conqueror Toni “Dynamite” Tauru in November 2019, winning by a spectacular knockout with kick back in the final round. The 31-year veteran member of Team Lakay wants to build on that momentum and hopefully position himself for another shot at ONE World Title in the future.
“I can’t decide if I’ll be next in line for a title shot or not. Ultimately, my performances will speak for themselves. My role is to train and perform at my best, always,” said Eustaquio. “But if the opportunity presents itself, of course, I think I deserve it. It will happen in God’s perfect timing.”
ONE Championship returns with ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously recorded event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore for worldwide broadcast this Friday night, November 13. In the main event, former ONE bantamweight world champion and No. 1 bantamweight contender Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines takes on No. 5 bantamweight contender John “Hands of Stone” Lineker of Brazil.
Eustace, who faces Song in the co-main event, is happy to get back to doing what he loves to do and feels more motivated to build a small winning streak.
