MANILA, Philippines – Former champion Kevin Belingon suffered a brutal technical knockout loss to John Lineker in their bantamweight fight in the ONE: Inside the Matrix III main event on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Belingon, the number one ranked bantamweight in the division, had his first moments landing Team Lakay’s spinning kicks, but Lineker had a punch or two ready for every attack the Filipino delivered.
Lineker, number 5 in the division, then continued his assault to the body in the second round and finally landed a right uppercut that sent Belingon to the canvas, prompting the referee to stop the fight 1:16 on the second round.
“Belingon is a very strong opponent, but I trained hard to be here tonight,” said Lineker (33-9), who has now won four of his last five fights and his second in a row in ONE.
Lineker then proceeded to call in bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes for a possible title fight.
“I want to be the champion, Bibiano, I’m coming for you baby!”
The loss marked Belingon’s third in a row, the previous two coming against Fernandes, who fell to 20-8.
