LEGAZPI CITY – The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) in Masbate on Tuesday (November 17) condemned the killing of a radio reporter in what police said was a clash between soldiers and a group of the New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in the town of Milagros.

Ronnie Villamor, a contributor to the local tabloid Dos Kantos and a reporter for a program on dyME, was killed by government soldiers in the village of Matanglad on November 14.

“He may still be included in the list of killed or murdered journalists whose families and colleagues would again demand justice,” the group said in a statement.

NUJP demands an investigation.

Previously, a police report said that Villamor was with four other armed men when they clashed with soldiers in Milagros. The report alleged that Villamor pulled a pistol and pointed it at the soldiers, prompting government agents to open fire and kill him on the spot.
