NOW Telecom is not yet PH’s fourth telecommunications company – DICT

MANILA, Philippines – NOW Telecom Company Inc. is not yet considered the fourth largest telecommunications company in the country, Department of Information and Communications (DICT) Secretary Gregorio Honasan II said Tuesday.

“’Yung NOW po, Hindi po. From where we see it, after more Hindi inquiries pa po ‘and a fourth telecommunications company, ”Honasan said in response to Senator Imee Marcos when she asked, during a Senate hearing, if NOW Telecom can already be considered the fourth company in telecommunications of the country.

“Actually, there are about 40 telecommunications companies in the country. Small companies are already consolidating, so technically we have more than three telcos and that is a good sign because they are small, they are already distributed nationwide.

Previously, the National Telecommunications Commission has extended a provisional authority for NOW Telecom Company Inc., the telecommunications subsidiary of NOW Corporation, to install, operate, and maintain a nationwide mobile telecommunications system.

NOW Telecom Corp. previously said that its telecommunications unit is one of only four firms with cellular mobile phone service licenses in the country, along with SMART, Globe and DITO.
