NOW Corp., Nokia Ink agreement on 5G collaboration

NOW CORP. It said on Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Nokia Solutions and Networks Philippines, Inc. and NOW Telecom Company, Inc. for its network expansion plan.

In a statement, the publicly traded firm said the collaboration between the three companies would focus on expanding their “current broadband telecommunications network through the deployment of a separate 5G network in the Philippine market.”

“Joint development projects can also be undertaken under the scope of the memorandum of understanding, which also provides strategic direction for all parties leading to a trade framework agreement,” he added.

Mel V. Velarde, Founder and President of the NOW Group of Companies, said: “This NOW-Nokia agreement on 5G collaboration will bring about the era of multi-gigabit broadband internet in the telecommunications, media and technology markets of the Philippines.”

“NOW’s strategy is clear: expand its current guaranteed service to high-end markets through 5G fixed wireless access and extend this engaging customer experience to consumers through 5G mobile cellular broadband service. By not having legacy networks, NOW’s standalone 5G network will rise above the competition. With Nokia as our technology partner, we trust NOW and their customers will be successful, ”he added.

In a previous disclosure, Now Corp. said that it had partnered with Viettel Business Solutions Corp. of Vietnam to offer information and communications technology (ICT) products and services in the country.

Now Telecom Co., Inc., an affiliate of NOW Corp., announced in September that the National Telecommunications Commission had “extended” its provisional authority to install, operate and maintain a mobile telecommunications system nationwide. – Arjay L. Balinbin
