SEOUL – North Korea’s official newspaper called on Sunday for efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the economy and national defense without being intimidated by the multiple challenges of its ongoing anti-virus campaign, the devastation caused by recent typhoons and attacks. consequences of global sanctions.

“Without economic independence, it is impossible to carry out an autonomous policy or the enormous task of building a rich country with a strong army,” Rodong Sinmun, the body of the ruling Northern party, said in a comment.

“Behind the success of our republic in constantly increasing its power despite persistent military blackmail and high-intensity pressure lies a solid foundation of an economy independent of the people that we have paved by tightening our belts,” the newspaper adds.

Admitting that there are still many economic and technical hurdles to overcome, the newspaper said that nothing can stand in the country’s path to self-sufficiency.

The document also emphasized the importance of self-reliance in national defense, saying that sovereignty and justice cannot be guaranteed without ensuring a power strong enough to ward off imperialists who will not abandon their nature of aggression and plunder.

North Korea has called for self-reliance since leader Kim Jong-un said in his New Year’s message that he does not expect a loosening of US sanctions and called for a “frontal advance” to address the challenges.

Hard hit by recent typhoons and floods, Kim turned down any offers of foreign aid last month, saying that accepting foreign aid could increase the risk of coronavirus infections. Yonhap
