MANILA, Philippines – Mark Nonoy and Deo Cuajao will stay at the University of Santo Tomas, at least for now.

Team Phenom Sports president Jax Chua, who manages the careers of the two guards, said in a statement that Nonoy and Cuajao remain loyal to embattled head coach Aldin Ayo.

“Mark, from high school, was already with Coach Aldin because it was Coach Aldin himself who recruited Mark to play at UST High School,” Chua said on Filipino Sunday. “Deo, meanwhile, was drafted two weeks before the season started.”

Chua’s comments came shortly after reports that Nonoy and Cuajao had moved to La Salle.

Ayo resigned from his position and is under an indefinite ban imposed by the UAAP Board following the findings about the Sorsogon bubble that saw the Growling Tigers training in the head coach’s home province amid lockdown protocols due to COVID-19.

The champion coach of the NCAA and the UAAP, however, appealed to have a lighter punishment and it is in this motion that the future of Nonoy and Cuajao hangs.

Chua said they are still waiting if UST will back Ayo’s appeal to the UAAP.

“We are still waiting if the UST supports the appeal of Coach Aldin,” Chua said. “This is a difficult time for them (Nonoy and Cuajao) because of their loyalty to coach Aldin and they really want to stay at UST.”

Without Ayo at UST, Nonoy and Cuajao wait patiently whether or not to transfer as the enrollment period for UAAP schools is coming to an end.

The Growling Tigers are down after the aftermath of Sorsogon Bubble with their former captain CJ Cansino transferred to the University of the Philippines, while Rhenz Abando, Brent Paraiso and Ira Bataller join UST’s Dominican sister school, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
