Nonito Donaire Positive for COVID-19, will not fight for the WBC world title on December 19

According to BoxingScene news, the popular former Philippine 4-division world champion Nonito Donaire (40-6, 26 KO’s) unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 coronavirus.

Because of that, Nonito will no longer be able to fight former Puerto Rican champion Emmanuel Rodríguez (19-1, 12 KO’s) for the vacant WBC bantamweight world title on December 19 live on Showtime.

The fight will likely be rescheduled as soon as Nonito, ranked # 1 in the WBC, has made a full recovery and is back strong and fit to fight.

However, Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodríguez, who was sensationally knocked out in two by “El Monstruo” Naoya Inoue last year, could still fight on the same date and place against a late substitute opponent, possibly a Pinoy fighter.

As Nonito’s 38th birthday arrives next Wednesday, his many fans around the world wish him well and a speedy recovery.

Born on the paradise island of Bohol in 1982, the beloved and exciting “Filipino Flash”, a future Hall of Famer, has thrilled fans with incredible performances since his first professional fight in 2001.

Nonito Donaire’s last fight against Japanese world champion Naoya Inoue (20-0, 17 KO’s) won the prestigious “Fight of the Year” award for 2019.
