Nokia and Philippine broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions announced plans to deploy fiber to ultra-broadband home services on the island of Mindanao, connecting more than 300,000 homes and businesses over the next three years.
In a statement, Nokia said that the implementation uses fiber access nodes from the Nokia Lightspan FX series, which Nokia says allows the Philippine company to use its fiber more “efficiently” and enables progression to next-generation technology such as: XGS-PON, 25G PON, next-generation PON line cards and software-defined access network via software update.
Nokia said the rollout was “critical” in laying the foundation for the Philippines’ digital future, as its goal is to provide affordable broadband access in one of the country’s remote regions.
